U.S. Army Specialist Fourth Class Hugo Luis Gonzalez

"In the summer of 2004 the unarmored Humvee in which Hugo's patrol was riding took a direct hit by an improvised explosive device (IED). The blast fragments penetrated his skull permanently damaging his brain and altering his life." (See New York Times article)

Home: Pembroke Pines, Florida
Injury: Hugo has lost vision in one eye and has only partial use of the other. He continues to suffer from a combat stress disorder, migarines and epilepsy.
Operation: Iraqi Freedom
Military Assignment: B Battery, - 6 Field Artillery Unit 2754
Immediate Family: Wife and three young daughters.
Personal Interests:Hugo enjoys listening to music and spending time with his three children.
Current Situation:

Hugo was discharged from the military with a 100% medical disability. While he receives income from the Veterans Administration and social security his family of five lives on only $800 a month after their mortgage and utility bills are paid. His wife does not work as she must care for Hugo and three young children. The Gonzalez family needs help paying for their basic living expenses while they seek a way to reduce their current housing expenses.
